| Intelligent PDF Conversion Process ABBYY FineReader 8.0 delivers superior accuracy in PDF file conversion with its dual-option approach. When processing PDF files, FineReader determines whether or not text is embedded, examines the integrity of the text layer and makes a decision as to whether to extract the text or apply OCR. It examines each block individually, and selects the most appropriate method to apply to each block. This advanced technology makes PDF conversion more accurate and up to two times * faster.
If necessary, advanced users can select "Recognise PDF as Image" mode to process all PDF documents as images.
PDF Security Settings and Encryption Support ABBYY FineReader 8.0 supports the following PDF security settings, making it well suited for professionals working in government agencies and other organizations demanding high security. FineReader:
- Supports "open file" password settings designed to prevent unauthorized access to a document.
- Allows users to restrict certain operations, such as printing, editing or extracting file content, by assigning permission passwords.
- Supports RC4-based 40-bit, 128-bit, and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)-based 128-bit encryption, which is adopted by the U.S. government as the document security standard.
Document Properties
When converting PDF files, FineReader captures PDF document properties defined by the author, such as Title, Subject, Author, and Keywords, and transfers that information to a similar location in the output documents. Supported formats include: DOC, RTF, XLS, HTML, PDF, and LIT.
PDF Output in Tagged PDF Format ABBYY FineReader now supports output to Tagged PDF format that can be "reflowed" to fit different page or screen widths. This makes it easy to create PDF files that are optimized for handheld devices such as PDAs or screen readers which are typically used by visually impaired users.
Links in PDF Files
When converting PDF files, FineReader will recreate internal links and hyperlinks within a PDF file. For example, if the table of contents in the PDF file has links to document pages, these internal links will be reconstructed in the Microsoft Word document. |

Other Enhancements in PDF Conversion
- Send results to Adobe Acrobat/Adobe Reader. Recognized documents can now be sent directly to Adobe Acrobat/Adobe Reader without previously saving to the hard disk.
- Page size. Now users can set the same size for all pages of a multi-page output PDF file, which means that users will not need to spend time adjusting individual page sizes after saving in PDF.
- New default saving mode . To reduce the size of PDF files, ABBYY FineReader 8.0 defaults to "Text and pictures only" mode.
