The Data Protection Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and EIR can be a burden to both the private and the public sector as the recent surveys demonstrate. Notification:
It is a legal requirement under the Data Protection Act 1998 for individuals and companies dealing with personal data such as customer and employee details, to register with the Information Commissioner's Office and keep their registration up to date. This process is known as notification.

SAR:
The Data Protection Act gives individuals the right to request and have access to personal information an organisation holds about them. Such an enquiry is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

IR:
Citizens can request any information from a public body under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 . Such requests are called Information Requests (IR).
